Welcome to the 2025 autumn knit-along.
This autumn we are knitting the Meabh sweater and this sweater is all about texture and flow.
This design starts at the back of the neck and is worked in brioche for a soft, sculptural fabric. The shaping unfolds step-by-step, using a contiguous shoulder construction, building first the shoulders, then the sleeves, and easing into a rhythm that will carry you through the whole knit.
Brioche can look intricate, but in this project, it’s a steady, learnable process. Once you get into the movement of yarn overs and slipped stitches, the increases will slot naturally into place.

What You’ll Knit This Week
In clue 1, you’ll:
-
Cast on at the back neck and work brioche flat in rows.
-
Increase at the shoulders every right-side row until you reach your target width.
-
Begin sleeve shaping, first on every right-side row, then every second right-side row.
-
At the same time you'll shape the neckline using M2L and M2R increases for a smooth finish.
-
Join your work in the round and continue in brioche to the underarm increases.
By the end of this clue, you’ll have the full yoke complete and the base structure of your sweater ready for the next stage.
Sounds manageable, right?
Tips & Modifications
If you are new to brioche, before you begin working increases try to become comfortable with basic brioche, both flat and in the round, first of all.
I have used two different types of increases, Make-3 for the shoulders and sleeves which is a more open increasing. This makes it more suitable for situations where you have a lot of increases stacked on top of each other. I’ve used M2L and M2R increases along the neckline for a smoother, more polished finish.
Shoulder Adjustments
If you want to make adjustments to the width of your shoulder, you can work more or less increases for your shoulder. If you still want to keep your bust size, you can add the stitches you didn’t increase at the Armhole Increases at the end of the yoke.
Sleeve Adjustments
The sleeve is worked by increasing stitches between the sleeve markers initially on
every right side and then on every second right side. The sleeves are designed to be
generously sized. If you would like a smaller sleeve, you can omit some of the increases. Alternatively, if you’d like a larger sleeve, you can increase the number of
increases worked.
Yoke Adjustments
The depth of the yoke can be adjusted after working Section D. Here, you have plain brioche rounds worked, and they can be increased or decreased to adjust the depth to suit your body.
