Learn to Knit: Keeping Colourwork Tension Even

Keeping your colourwork tension even is the key to nice looking colourwork. The temptation is to pull the yarn tightly but this doesn't work if you want to keep the stitches loose. This video shows you how to stretch out your work so that you have lots of stretch in your colourwork which will avoid it puckering and becoming stiff.

Steps to even tension:

  1. When changing colour insert the needle into the next stitch.
  2. Before knitting, stretch the stitches out on the right needle.
  3. Loosely strand the colour you are working behind those stitches before knitting.
