A few more notes on a provisional cast-on. If your cast-on is all one stitch (all knit or all purl) this crochet chain will unzip nice and neatly. However if you have knit and purl stitches alternating (like ribbing) you will find that the yarn is twisted around the stitch where it changes. Don’t worry, you haven’t done anything wrong, you will just need to unravel the yarn (or snip the waste yarn) and carry on!

This is the idea cast-on for Brioche as it perfectly mimics the brioche rib. You can even do a two colour version by using different colour strands for each side of the yarn.

There are a couple of different ways to work the Long Tail Cast-On. I've got 2 videos showing the standard method and the Thumb Method.
In this knitting tutorial, learn how to work Jeny's stretchy cast on. If you want a super stretchy cast on for the edge of your work this is a good one to start with.
This method of casting on provisionally is really fast. Once you learn the technique the stitches will fly onto the needles! It is possible to substitute a circular needle for the waste yarn and create your provisional cast on directly onto the needle with no need for waste yarn. Remember with this cast on method when you begin working in the second direction with the provisional cast on every other stitch will be mounted backwards.

If you want to begin your work with a beaded cast on this method is a fast and simple way to add beads. You need to begin with your beads pre-strung on your work and then you add them between your cast on stitches as frequently as you'd like. A similar method could be used for a variety of cast-ons, just sitting your beads between the stitches.
