Learn to Knit: Cable Cast-On Knitting Tutorial

What is a Cable Cast On?

A Cable Cast On is a very tidy cast on that gives a neat, 'cable line' edge and is nice and firm.

It is ideal for situations where you need to add stitches to work in progress such as at the front edge of a neckline or at an underarm.

How to Work a Cable Cast On?

  1. Create slip knot and place on needle.
  2. Knit into slip knot and place resultant stitch onto left needle.
  3. Put right needle between first two stitches on left needle, wrap yarn around needle and pull through.
  4. Place resultant stitch on left needle.

Repeat stitches 3 and 4 until you have the number of stitches that you need.
