Then our Amara sweater is simple to knit and leaves you with a clean, elegant sweater that allows your chosen yarn to really shine. You also have the option to choose between an adult or children's garment so you can start with the pattern that feels right for you. 

   
For those of you who need some extra support, this sweater comes with a step-by-step project workshop where we knit with you from cast on to finishing and both patterns are included in the workshop so you can start with the small garment learn all the techniques and then knit an adult garment too!

FAQ

How long will it take to knit my first sweater pattern? 

It depends on the complexity of the pattern and how much time you dedicate to knitting, but if you've chosen to knit our Amara kids sweater, many of our students finish within a week and move on to their chosen adult garment. The most important thing is to take your time and enjoy the process! 

What materials do I need to knit my first sweater pattern?

We have yarn kits for our recommended Amara sweaters as your first seamless knitting project. But in general you will need: 

  • Enough yarn for the size you want to knit it the same yarn weight.
  • Needle sizes needed to achieve the pattern gauge.
  • Stitch markers to denote increase sections.
  • A ruler to measure gauge and lengths.
  • A darning needle to weave in the ends. 

What are some common techniques I need to know for knitting a sweater?

Some common techniques you need to know are listed below. Luckily we have all of them in our tutorial section but we also have our this project workshop that will walk you step-by-step through your first top-down seamless sweater. 

  • Casting on (starting your stitches)
  • Knitting and purling (basic stitches)
  • Picking up stitches (for underarms)
  • Binding off (finishing your knitting)
  • Working in the round
