Welcome to the SiOG STRIPES mystery shawl KAL.

The first clue for this KAL will be relesased in the 8th of January 2020 but I'm adding some information about the Double Garter Stitch if you'd like to swatch before the KAL starts.

Double Garter Stitch

I've created a variation on Garter Stitch for this shawl that I've called 'Double Garter Stitch'. With this stitch you work each row twice with 2 different colours creating 2 garter 'ridges' on each side.

You'll need either double pointed needles or a circular needle for this stitch as you have to be able to slip all the stitches back to the start of the row for the second row on each side.

Row 1 (RS): With colour 1, knit, slide stitches back to start of row.
Row 2 (RS): With colour 2, knit.
Row 3 (WS): With colour 1, knit, slide stitches back to start of row.
Row 4 (WS): With colour 2, knit.

Clue 1

It's time to get started on the first clue of our KAL, I've put together 3 videos showing you how to work this and there will be a few 'spoilers' in the videos so only watch if you don't mind seeing the spoilers!

After the set-up you can see how to work the full 4 rows of a pattern repeat here:

Now once you've finished the cable repeats you'll have to end it neatly and you can see how in this video:

 Clue 2

Now we are ready to move on to clue 2. This clue will begin work on the right wing of the shawl. The same basic stitch pattern is going to be used and we will introduce decreases along the bottom edge.

Before you start the wing you will need to pick up stitches along the edge of the central panel. As we were working in a Double Garter Stitch the pick up rate will be all little different than standard. See how to work it in this video:

 Clue 3

The final clue is the mirror image of clue 2, you are working the left wing with the decreases along the bottom edge of your work.

When you have finished clue 3 the final thing left to do is create a tassel. I've put a video together to help you out if this is new to you:
